Basis

The insulin dosage is calculated using the following equation:

IU: Units of fast-acting insulin. Scales set out in sections of 1 IU, whereby the borderlines each represent 0.5 IU. Interim values can be estimated.

CHO: Carbohydrate units of consumed meal. Determined and set by the patient. Scales set out in sections of 10 CHO. Interim values can be estimated.

CHO ratio: Grams of carbohydrate covered by 1 unit of fast acting insulin. Prescribed by the doctor or consultation service.

Blood sugar: Preprandial blood glucose content in mg/dl. Measured by the patient. Scales spread out in intervals of 10 mg/dl for correction 40; 50; 60, intervals of 20 mg/dl for correction 70; 80 and intervals of 50 mg/dl for correction 100; 120. Interim values can be estimated.

Target value: Morning and noon = 100 mg/dl, evening = 120 mg/dl. These values are taken into account in the algorithms of the discs. Additional target values can be set between 100 and 400 mg/dl.

Correction: Blood sugar decrease per 1 IU in mg/dl. Tested and prescribed by the doctor or consultation service.
